DHS Acting promotes 21st century skills: critical thinking and problem solving, communications and collaboration, creativity and innovation. Through script analysis, character development, voice acting, audition preparation, feedback, rehearsal and live performances, students develop the skills necessary to succeed in a career, college, and life.
The Beginning / Intermediate Acting class produces showcases twice a year. The Advanced Acting class participates in the Georgia One Act Competition, Thescon, and performs a full length production twice a year.
Beginning and Intermediate Acting introduces students to the foundations of performance through script analysis, character development, voice work, improvisation, and scene study. In a supportive, collaborative environment, students build confidence while developing communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Throughout the year, students showcase their growth by performing in two class productions that celebrate their progress as emerging actors.
Beginning & Intermediate Acting
Advanced Acting is designed for students ready to deepen their craft through challenging performance opportunities and intensive character work. Students refine their acting techniques, audition skills, and collaborative abilities while preparing for full-length productions, the Georgia One Act Competition, and Thescon. Through rigorous rehearsals and live performances, students develop the artistic discipline, confidence, and leadership skills that prepare them for college, careers, and lifelong creative pursuits.
Advanced Acting
Emily Nichols, Director
Ms. Nichols has been performing for as long as she can remember. At the age of nine, she auditioned for a local community theatre production of Annie and found her passion. Originally from Indiana, Emily studied theatre and music at Indiana University and earned her B.F.A. in Musical Theatre Performance from Western Michigan University.
In 2004, Emily received her M.A. in Educational Theatre from New York University. There her creativity truly blossomed, and she has been happily teaching and directing youth productions ever since.
